Imagine a pastor concluding a worship service by saying, “Brothers and sisters in Christ, that was a very efficient worship service!”

Imagine a husband taking his wife on a romantic dinner date and saying, “I chose this restaurant and prepared a list of conversation starters so that we can maximally optimize peak date night efficiency.”

Imagine some mothers ending a toddler playdate by saying, “This was a very productive playdate! The children accomplished all the predetermined outcomes—they went on the swings and slides, they laughed and cried, and had exactly three fights in one hour.”

God makes boundaries for our good. In the beginning, “the earth was without form and void” (Genesis 1:2). God gave order and boundaries to creation, and it was good. In the same way, our interactions with technology need order and boundaries. A chaotic and boundaryless relationship with technology is anything but good.

Technology is everywhere. We constantly hear about new technology in the news. It’s a topic of conversation among parents on the sidelines of their children’s sporting events. Pastors and ministry leaders regularly face decisions about how and when new technologies are appropriate for their church. It seems like not a day goes by without us hearing something about tech, devices, or AI.
